Propane-Powered Generators Offer Emergency Backup Power

February 23, 2022

While many power outages are inconvenient nuisances, extended power losses can become expensive and potentially dangerous. Investing in propane-powered generators can help families and businesses avoid blackouts caused by severe weather.

Staying Ahead of the Storm

Propane-powered generators are the perfect backup solution to power outages. A generator will keep the electricity flowing, allowing people in homes or businesses to go about their everyday lives – no matter what the weather may be doing.

“Electricity is a fundamental resource, and when it’s not available, propane can reliably and safely fill the gap,” said Propane Education & Research Council President and CEO Tucker Perkins. “Propane-powered generators can keep the lights on when the grid goes down, making them an excellent solution for ensuring resiliency.”

According to a study commissioned by the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) to gauge consumer confidence in the electric grid, 23 percent of the more than 4,000 respondents have purchased a generator over the past two years, and 54 percent have considered one.

Power Outages Are Becoming More Frequent

America’s power grid is becoming less reliable. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), electricity customers experienced a little over eight hours of power interruptions in 2020, which is the most since EIA began tracking this information in 2013.

A Wall Street Journal review of federal data revealed significant, sustained outages have occurred with increasing frequency in the U.S. over the past two decades. In 2000, the data showed fewer than two dozen major disruptions. In 2020, the number surpassed 180.

A Dependable Backup Plan

Propane-powered generators are ready for action and automatically start when the electricity goes out. Standby propane generators are available in a wide variety of sizes to fit the needs of your home or business.

Choosing a generator that runs on propane means less maintenance than units powered by gasoline or diesel. Propane can be safely stored indefinitely without the need for fuel stabilizers or winterization.
